Red EP is the sophomore release by Malmö, Sweden’s “And the broken”, hot on the heels of their debut single “The Flu/Someday”. The first two songs deal with the woes and joys of parenthood - “Eighteen” with a Wedding Present-esque drive while “Just getting started” channels the band members’ inner crazy horses. The slightly schizophrenic “Not as easy” deals with facing up to your own demons, and the somber ending was described by a friend of the band as sounding as if Damon Albarn had assumed the role of director of the E-Street Band. “In the light of the day” is stating the obvious, at the end of the day - death - the joke’s on you. A trifecta of sombre themes and emotions delivered with the band’s usual flair for catchy melodies, angelic harmonies and soaring guitars. Bittersweet, indeed.
